After years of disrepair, the Chickasha Hotel once again shines as the jewel of the city’s downtown. Donna Buckner tells everyone she meets about her apartment in the restored hotel.
Donna and her daughter live in a two-bedroom apartment with large windows that overlook the train depot.
“I love looking out at the depot,” Donna said. “They do things all the time and I love seeing what’s going on in the world.”
Her mother, who has a disability, lives in a one-bedroom apartment just down the hall. Living in the Chickasha Hotel Apartments gives both of them the peace of mind of living in close proximity to one another yet the independence of having their own space.
“We are close enough that if she needs anything or needs me to stay overnight because she can’t breathe, I can do that,” Donna said.
Since reopening its doors, the Chickasha Hotel Apartments has become a tight knit community for its residents. With multiple amenities including on-site maintenance, after-hours keypad entry, a community room and a laundry on every floor, it’s no wonder that residents like Donna describe living on the property as ”awesome.”
“They’ve worked really hard to go back to the original grandeur of the Chickasha Hotel and I think they’ve succeeded,” she said.
OHFA helped make the dream of a revitalized Chickasha Hotel a reality by awarding the development $600,000 in Affordable Housing Tax Credits and $500,000 in Section 1602 Exchange funding. Renters must meet income requirements under the Affordable Housing Tax Credits program to live there.
